Keep a Civil Tongue!

August 7, 2016

“Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me!” My brother and I used to say that to each other and then stick our tongues out at one another when we were children. The truth of the matter is that the saying is untrue! Words indeed hurt, sometimes wounding for years. When we think about unity we must consider the power of the tongue. And, as this Turkish proverb says: “Keep the tongue in your mouth a prisoner.”

This topic seems like it might be one of those “should” and “ought to” sermons, but actually the Bible might surprise you. If we seek out its lessons, we are like the wise man whose civility worked to his advantage. Join us Sunday for a lively message. Sunday School at 9:15 and Worship at 10:30. See you there!
